  What religion are you now?

  i've struggled with wanting to be 'something' mostly probably to fill that hole that was left and to try and belong somewhere, anywhere really.

  so i've tried penecostal, presbyterian, united churches but they all seem fake.

  i always compared everything to the jw's, and didn't even realize it.

  No offence intended Emma but wouldn't the JWs say exactly the same thing - there are people who were once of all religions, we welcome people of every faith to study the bible from an open-minded viewpoint - anyone can answer and share there comments and the elders will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.

  Now we all know where it goes from here - Love bombing etc etc. Then eventually ORGANISATION, ORGANISATION, ORGANISATION. Then the open mind is eventually disintegrated by the constant barraging of the WTS coupled with the whole enviroment. If you are lonely or suffering tragedy it's a comfortable place to be, lot's of people around, little personal contact, just a sole cause - you don't have to think or fight all you have to do is be a 'doer of God's word' without any thought (hmm).

  I not saying this is anything remotely like what you are talking about - only that we need to be very careful when it come to believing what people say. The Unitarian Universalist church might be nothing like I've mentioned, I've never tried it myself so I can't comment.

  Fixations

  when i went to college several years ago, we had (as i suspect is usually the case) a college-sponsored newspaper; articles written by the students, for the students.. there was one writer who absolutely had it in for the president of the college; the pres couldn't even sneeze without this writer making a big issue about it in next week's paper.

  i happened to have a personal relationship with the president; he was a former jesuit, and we had several interesting conversations about theology, etc.

  one thing he told me was that he just couldn't understand why this writer had such a fixation: they had never even met!.

  If that's the case then does that mean all ambitious people are fixated because they spend all there time to a cause. For example athletes or snooker players. Where would we be without all the extremely hard working actors and musicains and sports personalities and others.

  Is aiming for the top just an unhealthy fixation to escape from life. If it is then bring it on.

  Can someone tell me what is this normal life that is so healthy that we should all be aiming for? To be honest I find the so-called 'normal' life extremely boring, I like to look for something more even if it might not be the easiest thing to deal with.

  neither the symbols found in the watchtower nor the cross and crown symbol are exclusively masonic.

  Hi Hamas, it was 'Judge' Rutherford that started the JW's not C.T Russell. That's why we still have the bible student's who are still around today.

  C.T Russell disagreed with the idea of an organisation, he knew it would be a bad thing because people would follow God through mind and ritual rather than love. C.T Russell made a last will and testament about which way he wanted the WTS should go and Rutherford ignored it and made his own plans as soon as he died (call it new light, waiting for Russells dark ).

  I am so burned out on religion I doubt I'll ever join another one.

  Big Tex, I couldn't agree more.

  To me religion is like a bad plaster. It may help cover up some of the gook but it will never help society in general. It's perfect for people who need a sense of well being and accomplishment as well as the need to be rewarded well.

  it's 2.30 am over here [yes, thats holland].

  and i'm working on an essay.

  midnight working works best for me, as i have no distractions from phones ringing, friends coming over or things like that.

  Can’t sleep – lot’s to do and all tomorrow. It’s now 3:20am. It’s the last week of college for me, as you can imagine a lot of nights out and bad habits too close to one another hasn't helped.

  hi there im new here so a brief biog to say hi.

  ill be a bit vague cos not sure how safe with poss jw's seeing as friends and parents still jw's and im not d'sd or df'd just stopped going.probably being paranoid.wonder why?was brought up jw did 'bad things' in teens whilst pioneering felt sick with guilt then got doubts started hanging with worldlys got grassed up by my sis for doing drugs but manage to avoid ds/da and left fairly quietly.

  i live in birmingham england have been my own man for over two years but after the initial great im free feeling i guess im a bit flat now.

  Can ‘fanatical religious people’ really be open-minded?

  according to them do it gods way and close your mind to your own logic and reason and that of the worlds (given to us by the very god they believe in).

  or be an independent thinker and reason stuff out according to the watchtower satan influences independent thinkers and they warn against it as this is the devils way of doing it.

  This is the main question really for any religious org. According to them – do it God’s way and close your mind to your own logic and reason and that of the world’s (given to us by the very God they believe in).

  Or be an independent thinker and reason stuff out – according to the Watchtower Satan influences independent thinkers and they warn against it as this is the Devils way of doing it. (btw I would just like to say I think you all are a bunch of nutters)

  It reminds me of a quote by Eric Hoffer,

  Fanatics believe that, their way, is the only way to go, yet they alienate themselves from the very things God gave them, applying no importance to anything other than what promotes there belief and taking all glory away from the God that they profess they worship because they discard every human emotion, instinct and trait in for what the men in their religion teach. This obviously applies to the way they view the rest of the world amongst other things. They think they give it with one hand but they take it away from him with the other.

  Do you think there is a lot of hope for people who get caught up in fanaticism? Does it all depend on the personality rather than on the evidence?

  Stopping smoking - any suggestions?

  hi, i smoke, not loads, but i would like to stop.

  i think i will find it really hard though and was wondering how you stopped if you were a previous smoker.

  i also suffer from asthma which obviously doesn't make things any better.

  Hi Englishman, you bring new meaning to the phrase 'gagging for a fag' - you never know though, I may get desperate enough eventually.
